Voter Information on Village Renewal Levy

Dear Chagrin Falls Resident:

On November 5th, Village voters will be asked to vote on a 5.5 mill General Fund renewal levy which would begin to be collected starting in January of 2015. This five year levy simply RENEWS a 5.5 mill tax issue which expires at the end of next year. The Village General Fund operating levy has been 5.5 voted mills for 34 years.

The proposed levy is a renewal of the current tax rate and WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR PROPERTY TAXES. Your Village tax bill will remain the same.

The levy generates $975,000 per year, nearly 20% of the Village General Fund Budget. The following are services funded by your property tax dollars:

  • Police and Fire Protection
  • Street Maintenance
  • Rubbish Pick-Up
  • Ambulance Service
  • Snow Removal
  • Parks

Solon Road Construction Update

Road work copyAs the initial phase of the work on Solon Road ends, the Chagrin Falls Streets Department would like to update Chagrin Falls residents. This project is administrated and paid for by Cuyahoga County. Solon Road residents received a flyer from Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works with some project information. The flyer distributed is posted for download below.

Although the flyer from the County states that the project will not be completely done until July of 2014, there will be a smooth road to drive on before winter starts.

Here is a more detailed description of the work done and the work still to be done from our Streets Department.

1. The new waterline construction project on Solon Rd. is complete. All residents are connected to the new line, and all roadway trenches have been filled with asphalt. All driveway aprons and sidewalks have been restored. All turf areas have been restored with topsoil, seed, and straw.

2. Cuyahoga County is responsible for the roadway repaving phase of the project. Preliminary work was started on September 9th. Drainage and some preparatory work will be done first.

3. We are told that by mid-October, the part of Solon Rd. that runs through Chagrin Falls will be ground down and recycled, and the base layer of new asphalt installed. This will ensure a solid and smooth driving surface through the Winter months.

4. In the Spring of 2014, the final top layer of asphalt will be installed and the roadside berm areas restored. This should be completed by July of 2014.

Information on NEW Curbside Waste And Recycling In Chagrin Falls


After more than thirty years with Waste Management (WM) as a service provider, the Village of Chagrin Falls Council has awarded the Curbside Solid Waste and Recycling contract to Kimble of Twinsburg, Ohio.

Kimble’s low bid will result in an annual savings of about $140,000 to the Village.

We expect Kimble to provide the same high level of service that you are accustomed to. The neighboring communities who contract with Kimble speak very highly of them and the service they provide.

Solid Waste:

Other than a new dark green 96 gallon wheeled cart for your garbage (same size as you currently use) you will notice very little change in the solid waste collection. Kimble will continue to collect on Thursday and Friday and your current collection day will stay the same.


The 18 gallon orange bins will be replaced with a bright green 64 gallon wheeled cart similar to the garbage cart but smaller. Recycling instruction are laminated on the lid of the container. Please help your Village save tax dollars by recycling as much waste as possible. This will reduce the amount of garbage going to the landfill that we pay for by the ton.

Kimble will commence service the first week of September. Please put your trash and 7 recycling out as usual on the last week of August but leave the WM carts at the street. WM will collect the garbage carts after picking up the garbage. You may keep the orange recycling bin. Kimble will deliver the new waste and recycling carts beginning on Thursday, August 29th and will make every effort to complete deliveries by Friday, August 30‘“. Some deliveries may not be completed until September 3m.
