Utility Bill Questions / Information

Dear Chagrin Falls Water Customer,

One of our goals with the new system is to provide bills reflecting usage for actual calendar quarters. This will also have the effect of making each quarter’s bill approximately equal in the number of days in the billing cycle.  With the previous system, the unequal number of days in each quarter’s bill lead to much confusion regarding why water usage had varied period to period. Switching to a calendar quarter billing system will require a transition from the old system to the new system with a fixed calendar quarter cutoff.

Accordingly, your October utility bill, will reflect approximately 4 and 1/2 months of water usage instead of the normal 3 months.  The October water bill will consist of usage from early to mid-May through September 30th.  This is a one-time occurrence necessary for the billing cycle’s conversion to a true calendar quarter billing system. While this October bill will reflect water usage over a longer period than was normal, you will only be charged for actual usage. If this transitional bill creates financial hardship, please contact Katie Knauff at 247-5050 to work out a payment plan for this extra time period.

Your January 2020 water bill will cover the period of water usage from October 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019.

Please contact Village Hall at (440) 247-5050 if you have any questions.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Robert Jamieson

Chagrin Falls Stabilizes Eroding Banks of the Chagrin River – tour information

The Village of Chagrin Falls Stabilizes Eroding Bank of the Chagrin River

Chagrin Falls Village, OH; September 30, 2019:  With $88,800 in funding from an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency 319 grant, and $59,200 provided as match by Village of Chagrin Falls 250 feet of severely eroding streambank were stabilized along the Chagrin River in fall 2017.  Four bendway weirs, rock structures that extend into the stream to direct flows away from banks; and toe stone protection were installed to reduce extreme streambank erosion. This project also involved regrading the streambanks to a gentler, more stable slope, and excavating the adjacent riparian area to increase floodplain water storage. Native vegetation was planted along the streambank and in the floodplain in spring 2019.

Sediment is a major cause of impairment in the Chagrin River.  Excessive sediment degrades habitat for fish and aquatic insects, decreases water clarity, and acts as a mode of transport for phosphorous and other pollutants to Lake Erie.  Stabilizing this section of eroding streambank is expected to reduce the amount of sediment entering the Chagrin River by 65 tons each year. This project restores floodplain access, reduces sediment pollution, and improves water quality both at the project area and further downstream.

The Village contracted with Davey Resource Group and Mark’s Construction, a design-build team of environmental scientists, engineers, and contractors, to complete this restoration work.  Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc. (CRWP), a nonprofit organization that provides technical assistance to the communities and park districts that drain to the Chagrin River, is also assisting Chagrin Falls Village with this project.

Interested citizens are invited to a tour of the project site on October 17, 2019 at 3 pm. CRWP, Davey Resource Group, and Village staff will lead the tour and share more information on the project at this time.  The tour will be held at Meadow Lane Waste-Water Treatment Plant at 301 Meadow Lane, Chagrin Falls, 44022. Fall Leaf Pick Up

Fall Leaf Pick Up

The Village of Chagrin Falls Street Department will begin the annual leaf pick-up program on Monday, October 21, 2019.  Crews will be starting at the south end of town and working north. Leaves should be piled in long windrows within 4 feet of the curb on the tree lawn wherever possible. On streets with ditches, leaves should be raked as close to the road as possible in windrows, but not blocking the ditch. Leaves should not be raked into the street as they will cause drainage problems. Branches, twigs, and flower cuttings must not be put in the leaf piles as they will clog up the vacuum equipment and slow down the pick-up considerably. Inclement weather will slow down the pick-up and may delay collection. The Street Department makes 4 – 6 rounds a year. Please have all leaves placed out for collection NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, November 24th. A final round of collection through the Village will start on MONDAY November 25th @ 7:30 A.M.  After the final pick-up, residents will have to bag their leaves for collection with their regular refuse. The Village of Chagrin Falls does not offer a Spring leaf pickup program.
