Commissions + Boards

Commissions and Boards are made up of a council representative/liaison and appointed representatives by the Mayor and approved by Council.  These entities meet regularly and are responsible for protecting Village interests. Commissions review issues and make recommendations for council consideration. Boards make binding decisions about issues presented.

Architectural Board of Review (ABR)

Review plans for new buildings and for all exterior changes to existing buildings, including additions, window and door changes, auxiliary structures, decks, re-siding, and re-roofing, etc.  Ensure changes to the exterior appearance of buildings in Chagrin Falls maintain the high standard of architectural quality in the community.

Arts Commission

Help to coordinate arts organizations in the Village.

Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA)

Hear requests for zoning variances from decisions of Architectural Board of Review (ABR) + Planning and Zoning (P&Z).  Decisions made by BZA can be appealed to Council for review.

Cemetery Commission

Provide advice and recommended care and expansion of the cemetery.

Charter Review Commission

Review the Village Charter and submit any proposed amendments to the Council, which passes legislation to place the issue before voters at the general election in November that same year.

Grove Hill Commission

Provides advice and recommendations regarding the development of Grove Hill Park.

Make recommendations on the use and development of our parks and green space.

Planning and Zoning Commission

Review all zoning issues, site plans, lot splits, and subdivision plats as well as other land use activities and projects.  Legislation for new zoning regulations are drafted here before being presented to Council for evaluation.

Shade Tree Commission

Study, formulate and develop plans for placing, planting, and preserving tree and shrubs on the streets and on public property owned by the Village.
