As you know the county is going to be replacing the Main Street Bridge over the two year period 2019 and 2020. Construction is slated to start this June; shortly after Art in the Park. To prevent a second disruption we will be under taking a rebuilding of the wing walls at the same time; the vertical walls between the bridge and the man made falls. While there will be some degree of unavoidable disruption associated with this, it is required. The bridge last had a major rebuild in the early 1930’s and the wing walls in the early 1980’s. Time has taken its toll.
The county plans on bid opening for this project on Wednesday, March 13th, with contractor selection following shortly thereafter.
The Village is planning on calling a meeting of merchants and residents in early May to explain the construction plans and our planning to make the process as least disruptive as possible.
Construction is expected to begin with the East Side of the bridge first and once completed, move to the West side. During construction, two way traffic will be maintained across the bridge. Prior to contractor selection and our having an opportunity to meet with the contractor for preconstruction planning; we do not have additional details regarding possible disruption at this time, nor plans for minimize it.
We have been actively planning to get ready for this construction project. We have secured all day employee leased parking spaces that will more than compensate for the spaces lost due to construction and we are discussing with various professional groups regarding an institutional advertising campaign program to promote all business in Chagrin during the construction period.
When we meet in early May we will be in a position to answer your questions, share our thinking on managing this process and solicit your ideas and input to minimize the effect on business.
