Chief Zugan is a third generation Chagrin Falls firefighter, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. After being appointed to the Chagrin Falls Fire Department in 1987, he rose through the ranks serving as a Lieutenant, and an Assistant Chief, before being appointed Chagrin Falls Village Fire Chief on January 14th, 2008. He is currently serving as the 19th Fire Chief in the departments 112 year history.
Chief Zugan also serves as the Chief of the Chagrin Falls Suburban Volunteer Fireman’s Association, which provides Fire and EMS service by contract to the villages of Moreland Hills, Hunting Valley, Bentleyville, South Russell, and Chagrin Falls Township. He is also a fulltime firefighter with the City of Shaker Heights, currently serving as a Battalion Chief and the departments training officer.
Along with numerous State of Ohio Certifications, Local, State and International affiliations, Chief Zugan holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Mark lives in Chagrin Falls and has served his community on the fire department since 1974. As an Assistant Chief he oversees the EMS, Records and Fire Equipment Division as well as serving as the Corporate Treasurer since 1985.
Mark has previously served as a Lieutenant with the Russell Twp Fire Dept and was the first full-time firefighter/paramedic of the Bainbridge Twp Fire Dept in Geauga County, He most recently worked as a Battalion Chief with Solon Fire-Rescue in Solon, Ohio, retiring in 2013 after 34 years of service.
Mark graduated in the first class of paramedics in Ohio in 1976. He helped form the current fire department EMS service in Chagrin Falls in 1988. Mark is a Paramedic Instructor, Fire Service Instructor and Hazardous Materials instructor who teaches part time for Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland State University and the Ohio Fire Academy.
Mark is currently the Director of the Chagrin/SE Regional Hazmat Team which serves thirty cities in Cuyahoga County, Ohio which he joined when it was formed in 1990. He is also the Red Team Leader of the Cuyahoga County Hazmat/CBRNE Type 1 Team and chairs the Ohio EMA Hazardous Materials Technical Advisory Committee.
Mark earned his Associate of Applied Science in Fire Technology at Cuyahoga Community College and his Bachelor of Science in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
During his tenure, Mark has been awarded the Chagrin Falls Outstanding Firefighter Award in 1984 and again in 1989, the Chagrin Falls Outstanding Officer Award, the Brentwood Hospital Robert DeRue Paramedic Training Program Outstanding Paramedic Award in 1987, the Chagrin ValleyJaycees Distinguished Community Service Award in 1989, the SolonRotary Club Fire Officer of the Year Award in 2010-11, the Chagrin Falls Fire Dept Lifesaving Award in 2008 and again in 2011, and the Chagrin Falls FD Elmer Hissett Service Award in 2012.
Jim Leffler joined the Fire Department in 1977 following in the footsteps of his father-in-law, Bill Raymond, a long-time Assistant Chief and the last volunteer Chief of the Department. He is a graduate of Kenston High School and Miami University. He became a full-time firefighter with University Heights in 1978 and retired at the rank of Captain with the city in 2013. He continued to serve with Chagrin Falls as a volunteer, and then as one of the first EMS personnel when the department took over that service in 1988. With the retirement of Chief Jack Phillips, he became Chief of Department in 1996 and served in that position until January, 2008 when he stepped down to his current position as Assistant Chief. Jim lives in Auburn Lakes with his wife, Leslie, who also serves as the department’s Executive Assistant. They enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. His son, Jimmy, also serves with Chagrin Falls as a Lieutenant and as a career firefighter with Beachwood. His younger son, Scott is currently an anesthesiology resident with Banner Medical in Gilbert, Arizona.
Captain Greg Krejci has been a member of the Chagrin Falls Suburban Volunteer Fireman’s Association for over fifteen years. He is a state certified fire instructor and also holds Fire Officer I, II, & III certifications. He is a member of the Rope Rescue Team. Currently Captain Krejci is actively involved in the fire training program for the Fire Department and has taught the Moreland Hills CERT Team. Captain Krejci also teaches at the Fire Academy in Parma. He is assigned to the Training, Driver/Pump Operator Promotional, Safety, Water Supply and Hydrant Divisions. He is also our Fire & Terrorism Liaison Officer. He and his wife Cheryl have three boys Gregory, Bradley and Zachary. They reside in Chesterland Township.
Serving since 1993, Lieutenant Chuck Huddleston is assigned to the Personnel, Fire Investigation, Retention and Recruitment Divisions. He also serves as Fire Prevention Officer to South Russell. He is a resident of South Russell.
Lieutenant John Catani has been serving the Chagrin Falls Fire Department since 2004. He attended Chagrin Falls High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University. John is assigned to Quartermaster, EMS, Personnel, and participates in the department’s rope rescue team. John is employed full-time with the City of Lakewood Division of Fire and is married to his wife, Megan.
Serving since 1995, Fire Marshal Jim Alunni heads the Fire Prevention Bureau. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, International Fire Marshals Association, International Code Council, Ohio Fire Officials Association (Executive Board), and the North Eastern Ohio Fire Prevention Association (Executive Board).
